Just call me Reg

Restored

Good news, our gmail accounts are back. It was quite the fiasco. The first time I requested help they denied it. The second time they allowed me to reset my password, only it was actually Holli’s account that was reset. The third time they disabled Holli’s account (yeah, the one she uses for business, blogging, and everything else).  My guess is this was caused by the fact that I included blogger as a service I use with my account, but Holli’s is the main account on the blog. After that Holli started filling out the form, by the next morning we both had access restored. I guess that form and I just don’t understand each other.

At any rate I’ve taken several precautions. Our accounts now have imap enabled and the messages are pulled down to Thunderbird on two machines. Our contacts have been imported on both machines. Between the two of us we have four gmail accounts, they’re all adminstrators on our blog now. All of my google docs have been shared with our other accounts. I even exported my google reader list. I also reset my security question and answer, even though they never asked for it. If I weren’t capable of dealing with all this it would probably be worth the $50 a year to get the google apps premier edition which includes phone support. The number one thing to check if you use gmail is your secondary email address. You need to know what it is and be able to receive mail for it.

A week ago I wouldn’t have felt better about having data on my computers over google’s; but now my perspective has changed.

  1. Reg does not even begin to convey how devastating this was to me. We found several instances where this happened, and very few were restored…so, word to the wise, make sure you have 4 email addresses as admin on blogger, or you could lose all your memories!
